Avoiding Luncheon Meats - Keys to Good Nutrition and to Eating Healthy with the Feast

Hi friends,

Today I'd like to share an article compiled by a friend of mine, Merry K., and then share a few of my own comments about it at the end.

Is "Lunch Meat" On Your Menu To Be Included In Eating Healthy Nutritious Food?

Many Americans every day enjoy sandwiches for lunch or dinner. Our sandwiches usually include some sort of processed meat product ranging from bologna to roast beef. But here's the latest on those beloved lunch meats.

Hundreds of cancer researchers took part in a five-year project spanning more than 7,000 clinical studies and designed to document the links between diet and cancer. Their conclusion, published in the World Cancer Research Fund's report, Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity and the Prevention of Cancer: a Global Perspective (2007), has rocked the health world with a declaration that all people should immediately stop buying and eating processed meat products and that all processed meat should be avoided for life!

FOR LIFE? Wow, this is really something to take notice of.

Processed meats, the report explains, are simply too dangerous for human consumption. And why? Because they contain chemical additives that are known to greatly increase the risk of various cancers, including colonrectal cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, leukemia, brain tumors, pancreatic cancer and many more.

The report, published at this DietAndCancerReport.org website also recommends that consumers:
• Avoid all sugary soft drinks for life.
• Exercise at least 30 minutes a day.
• Get lean and fit, without becoming underweight.
• Limit consumption of ALL meats (even fresh meat).
• Breastfeed all infants for their first six months, avoiding infant formula.

The findings of this research group are really nothing new. But it certainly lends credence to what I, and multitudes of others, adhere to in our daily lives and philosophy. The truth is that whole, live foods are what keep YOU whole and live! Without that we are simply toxifying ourselves with slow killers (the chemical additives in our "foods")

What exactly IS the difference between just "meat" and the processed type? Fresh meat usually has only one ingredient: the meat! Fresh meat is refrigerated and has a very short shelf life (just a few days, usually). It's usually packaged in simple wrappers, with no fancy logos or color printing. Processed meat has many ingredients and is usually packaged for long-term shelf life. These products almost always contain sodium nitrite, the cancer-causing chemical additive that meat companies use as a color fixer to turn their meat products a bright red "fresh-looking" color.

Processed meat products include:• Bacon• Sausage• Pepperoni• Beef jerky• Deli slices• Hot dogs• Sandwich meat (including those served at restaurants)• Ham• Meat "gift" products like Christmas sausages• Meat used in canned soups• Meat used in frozen pizza• Meat used in kid's lunch products• Meat used in ravioli, spaghetti or Italian pasta products... and many more meat products.Unless it says "NITRITE FREE" on the front label, you can bet it's made with cancer-causing sodium nitrite! You see, eating healthy nutritious food is more than just limiting your trans fat intake or increasing your daily fiber allowance and filling in the gaps with chemically made vitamin supplements. It is a true shift from darkness to light. So, the next time you want to have a sandwich, try making it VEGGIE. You will enjoy the freshness of it and keep peace of mind knowing that you are not giving yourself known carcinogens to ingest.

{special thanks to http://www.newstarget.com/ and their coverage of this story, whom I've gleaned much knowledge and information from for this post} Merry K.

My commentary:
This article tells it like it really is: the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

Now, I can hear someone you saying under your breath, "But some of my favorite foods/meats are in that list of meats to avoid. This is just going way too far!"

My friend, if you can't believe this research because it contradicts your tastes and lifestyles, then you are avoiding the truth because it is just too inconvenient for you to live with. You'd rather just eat whatever the hell you want to, and leave the results to God. Right? You're rather live with the lie prefabricated by the food manufacturers and their advertisers than face the hard straight truth of proven research of hundreds of cancer researchers and 7,000 clinical studies.

Well, you do have the right to choose what you believe. However, my friend, you will have to live with the consequences of your beliefs and actions. If you continue to eat this "food" that is not fit for human consumption and is toxic and dangerous to your body's health, then you will have to accept the inevitable life-threatening health problems and illness related to eating this kind of man-made and man-poisoned junk. It's really up to you, but you will bear the responsibility alone for the consequences of the way that you eat. I encourage you; no, I beg you, to reconsider the facts and proven clinical research of thousands of experts, and make the wise decision to give up these C-causing "foods/meats." And remember, drinking the Feast every day and avoiding these kinds of health-destroying luncheon meats are keys to good nutrition and to eating healthy.

Fruits & Vegetables - Keys to Good Nutrition and to Eating Healthy With the Feast

HAVE YOU HAD YOUR 5-12 SERVINGS OF FRESH VEGETABLES AND FRUIT TODAY?

HOW ABOUT YOUR KIDS?

According to current nutritional research, you and I are supposed to be eating 5-12 servings of fresh vegetables and fruit every day to achieve optimal health and to protect our bodies from free radicals and various serious illnesses.

Now, let me ask you: How many people do you know who do this on a daily basis?

I bet that if you took a poll today, you'd find that only about 5 people out of a 100 actually eat 5-12 servings of vegetables and fruit every day. And this "guesstimate" is probably high; it's probably more like 2% of the population.

Why is this the case here in America and the Western world?

I would suggest that there are several reasons. First, we are no longer an agricultural-based society, so we are much removed from the farm and growing crops and having our own gardens and fruit trees. This means that we are almost entirely dependent upon supermarkets to provide us with vegetables and fruits. Here the problem gets more complicated because the vegetables and fruits sold in supermarkets often comes from thousands of miles away and are picked way before they are ripe. In addition, most of the produce is grown with pesticides and herbicides, which means our bodies are getting a toxic overload when we eat this supermarket produce. Furthermore, most supermarkets charge a lot of money for fresh fruit and berries, and even vegetables are getting pricier these days. In other words, it's not cheap to buy plenty of good quality produce.

Secondly, buying, washing, and storing vegetables and fruit is just too time-consuming for many people's fast-paced lifestyles. They may try buying it, but they get tired of having to wash it and prepare it for meals, so a lot of it goes to waste. As a result of this problem, some people resort to eating only frozen or canned vegetables and fruit (which is not healthy), or they just stop eating fruits and vegetables altogether.

The end result is that most people are not eating 5-12 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables every day...they're not even coming close. On a good day, they may eat 1 or 2 servings, and on their best day, maybe 3 or 4 servings. On an average day, none or maybe 1.

SO... WHAT'S THE SOLUTION TO THEIR PROBLEM?
What's the answer to this situation?

Here's what I would recommend to you and your family.

#1 - Make a commitment to start buying and eating fresh produce again. Learn to put up with the inconvenience of it for the sake of your health. Look for produce markets that carry fresh organic vegetables and fruit, and do your shopping there and not at your local supermarket.

#2 - Start taking the Feast every day, both you and your family. The Feast is a live whole food based InstaFresh juice powder that you simply add to water, mix, and drink. It's made by URI International, and it's loaded with the most nutritionally powerful greens and vegetables, fruits and berries, on the earth.

Why should you be taking this ?

Simply because it's a way for you and your family to fill in the nutritional gaps in your diet and to help you get the 5-12 servings of into your body every day. It's like having the whole produce aisle in a glass that you can drink in 20 seconds. It's convenient, lifestyle friendly, and extremely nutritious. In addition, it actually tastes great; your kids will love it too!

What's in the Feast?

The Feast is the one and only live whole food supplement on the planet that delivers a full, synergistic spectrum of:

* 30 antioxidant rich fruits and berries * 30 powerful greens and vegetables * 11 nutrient dense seeds, nuts, and sprouts * 83+ active enzymes and fulvic minerals * 22 strains of resilient living probiotics

In conclusion, let me ask you again: HAVE YOU HAD YOUR 5-12 SERVINGS OF FRESH VEGETABLES AND FRUITS TODAY?

I have, and I drink them every day in the form of the Feast, and you can too.

Holiday Wisdom - Keys to Good Nutrition and Eating Healthy with the Feast

I would like to encourage you to watch what you eat over the holidays.

Most people eat poorly all year long and suffer the consequences. However, some people, like myself and maybe you, eat nutritious healthy food all year, except when it comes to the year end holidays. Make a point this year to EAT WISELY during the holiday season.

Wisdom Key #1 - Avoid the unhealthy refined processed holiday foods and treats

There's always an abundance of food, many sweets and desserts, and lots of specialty foods such as cookies, cakes, pies, muffins, etc. If you think about it, most of these holiday foods are not good for you. They're made with a lot of sugar, white processed flour, butter, and other non-nutritious ingredients. These are the foods that will contribute to your gaining weight over the holidays, as well make you sluggish and more vulnerable to sickness and long-term illness.

Plain and simple, it's just not worth it. Your health is valuable, and you must take charge of it and protect it, especially during the holiday season.

Wisdom Key #2 - Avoid processed meats and pork products

Recent research findings have proven over and over again that processed meats, which are often abundant at holiday times, are dangerous for your health and contribute to serious long-term illnesses, including the big-"C". To protect your health, you really need to make a commitment to yourself that you're going to avoid all processed meats and pork products such as sausage, bacon, ham, hot dogs, bologna, salami, etc. When these are offered to you, simply say, "No thank you."

Wisdom Key #3 - Don't overeat during the holidays; exercise moderation

This is one of the worst things you can do for your body. Overeating is one of the major causes of ill health in America. When you overeat, you overload your body and its systems in such a way that puts a tremendous stress on your vital organs and cells. THINK M-O-D-E-R-A-T-I-O-N this holiday season. Enjoy the good and healthy food, but eat it with a sense of moderation.

Wisdom Key #4 - Keep exercising during the holidays

This is very important and shouldn't be neglected just because it's the holidays. If you can't stick to your normal routine because you're at a relative's home or because you have a lot of guests, then at the very least be sure to take a 30-60 minute walk every day. This will provide you with good exercise and give you a break from all the hustle and bustle of the holidays.

Wisdom Key #5 - Take some time to relax during the holidays

Now by that I don't mean to sit around and watch TV and football. What I mean is for you to do some relaxing things that you normally don't get to do during normal busy working life. For example, take a long soothing bath by candle light, read a novel, sit with your spouse and listen to Christmas music, take a long afternoon nap, etc. You get the idea.

Wisdom Key #6 - Remember to continue taking your nutritional supplements

Your body needs the added nutrition of a live whole food based supplement, so be sure to continue to take this during the holidays. I personally take "
," which is a live whole food based InstaFresh powder drink mix (loaded with greens, vegetables, fruits, berries, seeds, nuts, and sprouts) that I mix in with other ingredients to create the most delicious and nutritious smoothie ever. I add a few frozen strawberries or blueberries, some fresh cranberries, some Himalayan Krystal saline solution, fresh ground flax seeds, extra virgin coconut oil, some pure barley grass powder, some cayenne pepper, half a fresh lemon, and a lot of purpose when I create one of these smoothie masterpieces. If you'd like information about made by Uri International and what's in it, go to: http://www.LiveSuperJuice.com OR click here: The FEAST by Uri International

Well, my friends, there you have it: 6 wisdom keys for the holidays. I trust that these six
and to will help you avoid the pitfalls of unhealthy eating and encourage you to watch what you eat during this holiday season. Remember, and will lead you down the road to health, vitality, and longevity.

Healthiest Cultures - Keys to Good Nutrition and to Eating Healthy with the Feast

I've got a health and nutrition project for you that I'm sure you'll enjoy and learn a lot from.

Take the time to do a bit of research on the internet on some of the healthiest cultures of the world. By doing so, you will learn more of the to and to , and you'll understand why drinking , a whole food based drink powder nutritional supplement, is so important.

Here are a few leads for you...

1. The HUNZA people of the Himalayan Mountains:

The people's health, nutrition, longevity, and endurance are legendary. They live up to 90 and 100 years of age and are strong and active even in old age. One thing you'll notice about them is that they eat a high natural carbohydrate, . Their food staples are barley, buckwheat, wheat, assorted vegetables, various kinds of fruits, mostly apricots, apples, and grapes. The most amazing thing is that they have none of modern man's dreaded illnesses.

2. The BULGARIANS of Eastern Europe:

There are actually more centenarians in Bulgaria than in any other country in the world. Don't you think it would be worth it to check out the reasons for their exceptionally great health and longevity? Their diet consists of largely black bread (most whole rye and barley), vegetables, and soured milk in the form of yogurt and kefir. In addition, eat very little meat. In fact, most of the in Bulgaria are .

3. The RUSSIANS:

Russian has seven times more centenarians per million than America has. They are known for their good health, longevity, and endurance. They are a low protein people. Surprisingly, a great number of Russia's centenarians are total vegetarians.

4. The JAPANESE OF THE FAR EAST:

Japanese people have traditionally had a very healthy diet. Some of the keys to their longevity include eating lots of fresh vegetables, fish, fermented foods like miso soup and natto, and plenty of grains and rice. Unfortunately, white rice is now the norm in Japan, but it wasn't always so. Nevertheless, the Japanese live longer than most people in Western countries.

To your health,

Dangers of Plastic Bottles - Keys to Good Nutrition & Eating Healthy with The Feast

Health Question: What kind of plastic bottles do you use to carry and store your drinking water in?

My wife and I drink a lot of natural spring water every day. Of course we mix it in with , which is a whole food based InstaFresh juice powder that we prepare in the form of a smoothie every morning. Drinking plenty of natural spring water every day, as well as drinking , are two of the to and to that we practice every day. I'm sure you can imagine, as a result we go through a lot of water every week.

We get out drinking water from a friend's well, so once a week we have to drive over there and fill up our water bottles. In the beginning, we were reusing the light weight thin plastic bottles that we bought at Walmart with bottled water. Then we also started reusing the thicker Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice bottles. Finally, we got tired of filling up so many bottles, so we started using a large 5-gallon hard plastic bottle that you get when you sign up for home delivered bottled water.

Along this water bottle journey, I kept hearing bits and pieces about the dangers of and how certain toxic substances in the plastic will actually leach into the water itself causing various types of health problems.

Today I decided to do some research on this plastic bottle issue and I discovered some very helpful information that I'd like to share with you.

There's quite a bit of information out there based on various scientific studies. However, I'm going to cut to the chase and only share the most critical information. In other words, I'm going to share with you which to use and which to avoid.

THE WORST AND MOST UNHEALTHY PLASTIC BOTTLES TO AVOID

Most of these plastics come with a number and a name and an abbreviation for the name because they're difficult to say and to spell.

BEWARE of #7 POLYCARBONATE (Lexan) plastic bottles (including sippy cups and baby bottles). For a while people thought these bottles were safe, but recent research has proven that this plastic leaches Bisphenol A (BPA), which causes various health problems.

BEWARE of #1 PET (polyethylenene terephthalate) plastic bottles. Very unhealthy.

BEWARE of #3 PVC (polyvinyl chloride; aka vinyl) plastic bottles. Very unhealthy.

BEWARE of #6 POLYSTYRENE plastic bottles. You don't want this in contact with your water, drinks, or food. Very unhealthy.

THE BEST AND SAFEST MATERIALS FOR PLASTIC WATER BOTTLES (and FOOD STORAGE)

#5 PP - PolyPropylene.

#2 HDPE - High Density Polyethylene

#4 LDPE - Low Density Polyethylene

You can go on line and do a search for companies that make water bottles with these safe materials.

OTHER WATER STORAGE AND CARRYING SUGGESTIONS

GLASS - Is a very healthy and safe material for storing your water in. Just make sure you don't take it with you when you travel for obvious reasons.

STAINLESS STEEL - This is another good option, especially for traveling, camping, biking, skiing, etc. I would recommend a product I found called Klean Kanteen.

Finally, when buying water storage containers, be sure to buy bottles that have wide mouth openings so that you can do a much better job cleaning them periodically. When you have a bottle with a narrow opening, it's nearly impossible to clean it thoroughly, and you end up with bacteria growing inside the container that you can't get rid of.

Part 2 Reading Food Labels - Keys to Good Nutrition and Tips to Eating Healthy

DEVELOPING THE VALUABLE HABIT OF
READING FOOD LABELS

This is PART 2 of reading food labels and ingredients lists on food.

Part 1 focused on the bad, unhealthy food ingredients to look for and avoid, as well as some general guidelines regarding reading food labels and how food manufacturers often deceive the consumer in their labels. You can look back at Part 1 in my blog archives dated November 8th, 2007.

In case you missed the first posting, I will review some of the introductory comments before sharing what good whole food ingredients to look for when you're out shopping.

When it comes to and tips to ,what could be more important than always before you buy something to eat?!

This is one of those valuable health habits that you should be practicing every day without even thinking about it.

Good nutrition and healthy eating begin with carefully reading the LIST OF INGREDIENTS on all the food items you're considering purchasing.

GOOD WHOLE FOOD INGREDIENTS TO LOOK FOR

1. Look for "ORGANIC" whole food ingredients. These are the healthiest foods to eat because they are grown without the use of chemical pesticides and herbicides. They are natural that your body can use for life and energy.

2. Look for "NON-GM" OR "NON-GE" (non-genetically modified or non-genetically engineered) food ingredients. These are natural whole foods that haven't been in some lab. Avoid GE and GM products like the plague! Today these GM food ingredients are in over 70% of the products in your local supermarket. If a label says, "corn," then it is most probably genetically modified corn, and it is not good for you. If a label says, "organic stone ground corn," then it is a natural whole food and is good for you. Probably the best way to avoid GM or GE foods is to buy organic labeled foods. In America, you've got to be very careful about the source and type of corn, soy, and wheat, because these are the three biggest GM or GE products out there, and they are making their way into most of the food products in your local supermarket.

3. Look for products made with "100% WHOLE WHEAT" which has the germ and the bran and all of the vitamins and minerals that come with a whole food grain. Don't be fooled by the similar looking terms, "whole wheat" or "enriched wheat."

4. Pay attention to the oils that are put in your food. Look for good oils such as extra virgin olive oil, raw coconut oil, flaxseed oil, high oleic expeller-pressed safflower oil and sunflower oil, sesame oil, and avocado oil. These are the best natural and healthy oils out there.

5. Look for healthy sweeteners such as raw, unfiltered, unheated honey, raw agave nectar, maple syrup, and Stevia (a natural sweet herb/leaf).

6. Pay attention to the amount of salt in the product, as well as the kind of salt. The best salt is Himalayan crystal salt, followed by sea salt. Avoid all table salt.

7. Look for organic meats such as grass-fed beef, lamb and poultry. For seafood, look for freshly caught deep ocean fish that have fins and scales.

I encourage you to take these and apply these as you go out and shop for the healthiest, most life-giving food you can find. Practice this critical healthy habit of reading food labels to protect your health and to ensure that you're getting food that is truly healthy.

Knowing Dangers of Doctors - Keys to Good Nutrition and to Eating Healthy

Hi friends,

Today I'd like to share an article I found on Mercola.com entitled, "," that discusses some of the dangers of doctors to your health. This article was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) by of the .

"Doctors Are the Third Leading Cause of Death in the U.S. Causing 225,000 Deaths Every Year" - Article Title

Normally, people don't think of doctors as a danger to their health, but rather as an asset to their health. However, doctors are human and they make mistakes which can adversely affect your health.

In addition, they have not been trained in nutrition, healthy eating, and true health. Instead, they have been trained in disease, surgery, medicine and drugs as a way of dealing with people's symptoms. They actually know very little about true health, proper nutrition, health maintenance, and illness prevention. Most of their solutions to your physical problems involve surgery and medical drugs, both of which are very expensive, and both of which are often or usually totally unecessary.

You, my friend, must take responsibility for your own health and the health of your family. You can no longer afford to leave this responsibility to your doctor or to anyone else. You must educate yourself about health, nutrition, eating healthy, and living a healthy lifestyle. You must also learn the truths of prevention of illness.

I do believe there is a place for in our lives; namely, to provide emergency treatment after accidents. For example, when you are in a car accident or when you fall and break your leg, a doctor is a good person to have around to help fix you up.

However, for other purposes such as prevention of illness or treatment of ailments, I no longer believe that a doctor is my or your best choice. If you took a survey of the physical health and habits of medical doctors, I believe that you would find that they are some of the least healthy people you know. In fact, I've heard that many doctors die prematurely of all kinds of ailments that are a result of their unhealthy and stressful lifestyles, including very poor eating habits.

Knowing the dangers of doctors is one more of the to good health, to , and to .

I encourage you to read this article with an open mind.

Avoiding Trans-Fat - Keys to Good Nutrition and To Eating Healthy

Greetings health-conscious friends who value your health,

Today I'd like to share an article with you that I found on NewsTarget about and the American diet. I want you to understand why trans-fats are so dangerous to your health so that you will have good reasons to avoid them in your food. Simply put: avoiding trans-fats is one more of the important to and a major tip to .

Trans-fats are hidden in lots of food products in your local supermarket, and they are also prevalent in fast food and restaurant food. This is one more major reason to avoid eating at fast food restaurants that care little about your health and actually serve food that is destructive to your health. It's time to take responsibility for your own health and start avoiding this health-destroying man-made food product everywhere you find it. To your health, the Naked Nutrition Knight.

---------------------------------------
(NewsTarget) All fat is not equal. Most of us are aware that there are good fats and bad fats. But the difference between the two can be confusing. For many years, we were told that unsaturated fat is better than saturated fat. We were also led to believe that if we avoid all animal fat, we are safe and that any vegetable fat is fine. Many of the country’s professional medical associations have even promoted a “healthy” diet that is low in saturated fat for many years.

In reality, it is not that simple. As Enig and Fallon (1998, 1999) point out in their article “The Oiling of America” the American diet before 1910 was largely based on animal fats like butter, eggs, lard and meats, and coronary heart disease and heart attacks were rare. Americans also were less sedentary and often ate locally produced food during those years. There was no refrigerated, cross-country trucking of foods in those days.

The American diet began to change toward one that included more industrially produced options, such as margarines, factory baked goods and vegetable oils in place of lard. Even though research in the ‘50’s and ‘60’s pointed to the fact that were fewer instances of coronary heart disease prior to the dietary changes, American companies were promoting their cereals, corn oil and margarines as beneficial to health and good for lowering cholesterol. It was around that time that the American Heart Association began a campaign (based on research done on rabbits, which are vegetarian animals) to change America’s diet to a “Prudent Diet” where butter was replaced by margarine, breakfast cereals replaced eggs and chicken and fish in place of beef. The familiar food pyramid was created and even taught in public schools.

None of the research supported that dietary model. In fact, there were many published research reports that indicated that the opposite was true. Enig and Fallow write that “in 1961 the AHA published its first dietary guidelines aimed at the public. The authors, Irving Page, Ancel Keys, Jeremiah Stamler and Frederick Stare, called for the substitution of polyunsaturates for saturated fat, even though Keys, Stare and Page had all previously noted in published papers that the increase in CHD was paralleled by increasing consumption of vegetable oils. In fact, in a 1956 paper, Keys had suggested that the increasing use of might be the underlying cause of the CHD epidemic.”

Now, more and more research is indicating that Keys was right in 1956. Trans-fats (hydrogenated vegetable oils) are dangerous to health and still in wide use. While most animal fat sources are saturated, which just means they are made of straight chains of carbon and hydrogen that pack together easily and are relatively solid at room temperature, most vegetable sources are unsaturated. They are formed by more crooked chains of atoms and since they don’t pack together easily are more likely to be liquid at room temperature (or even below that).

In order to take a vegetable source and make it into a butter-like substance, you have to modify its structure. This process is called “” and was discovered and patented by a French scientist. Later, Proctor and Gamble obtained the rights to that patented process for use in the United States. Crisco Oil™ soon became the shortening of choice in American kitchens.

The problem with hydrogenation is that the process turns a healthy fat into a dangerous fat. According to Enig and Fallow’s article, this process turns the vegetable-sourced unsaturated oils into straight “packable” molecules, by changing the placement of the hydrogen atoms at the location of their double bonds. In nature, most double bonds occur in the “cis” configuration, which means that both hydrogen atoms are on the same side of the carbon chain in the place on the chain where there is a double bond.

In the cis configuration, fats bend or kink at the double bond, preventing them from packing together easily. Hydrogenation moves one hydrogen atom across to the other side of the carbon chain at the point of the double bond allowing the chain to straighten out and become a “plastic” fat that can have a much higher melting temperature. In its normal state, unsaturated fats have that double bond site where vital chemical reactions take place. These reactions are critical to the ability of living cells to do their duties. When you create the trans-fat, you make a molecule that is similar enough to natural (saturated) fats that the body takes them in. Once they have been ingested, their altered chemical structure creates havoc with thousands of necessary chemical reactions—everything from energy production to synthesis of prostaglandins, which are critical to many body functions. Overall adverse effects are seen even when consumed in small amounts: 1% to 3% of total energy intake, or approximately 20 to 60 calories (2g to 7 g) for a person consuming 2,000 calories per day, according to the investigators. "Thus complete or near-complete avoidance of industrially produced trans fats may be necessary to avoid adverse effects and would be prudent to minimize health risks," said Dariush Mozaffarian, M.D., at the Harvard School of Public Health, and colleagues including Walter Willett, M.D., and Meir Stampfer, M.D.

The current research is so definitive about the harmful effects of trans-fat consumption, that many states have banned the use of trans-fats in public restaurants (like New York) and the Centers for Science in the Public Interest has filed a lawsuit against fast-good giant Burger King.

Trans-fats can hide in many food ingredients. In the CSPI news release they state that “Numerous fried and non-fried foods at Burger King have alarming levels of trans fat, according to CSPI. A King-size Onion Rings has 6 grams of trans-fat. A regular-size order of Chicken Tenders with a large order of French fries has 8 grams of trans-fat. A Sausage Biscuit with a large order of Hash Browns has an astounding 18 grams of trans-fat—more than someone should consume in 9 days.” Another disturbing fact is that, even though most companies that label their food include the amount of trans-fat present, they are not require to report any amount less than one gram. So, if a serving has half of that, they don’t have to report it. Eating several servings could, in fact, put someone over their daily safe consumption without knowing it.

Pt 1 Reading Food Labels - Keys to Good Nutrition and Tips to Eating Healthy

THE ABSOLUTE NECESSITY OF
READING FOOD LABELS

When it comes to and tips to , what could be more important than always before you buy something to eat?!

This is one of those life-long wise habits that you should be practicing every day without even thinking about it.

Good nutrition and healthy eating begin with carefully reading the LIST OF INGREDIENTS on all the food items you're considering purchasing.

A short lesson on reading the list of ingredients for food:

A. The list of ingredients is in order of the largest ingredients to the smallest. In other words, the first ingredient is the biggest ingredient in the product.

B. The most important ingredients in the list are the first three or four ingredients which make up the bulk of the product.

C. Food manufacturers can often be quite deceptive in the way they list their ingredients. For example, if the biggest ingredient is sugar, they will often break it into different kinds of sugar in smaller amounts so that sugar doesn't end up being the number one ingredient on the label. They might use Aspartame, maltodextrin, sucrulose, high-fructose corn syrup, etc. to hide the fact that the biggest ingredient is sugar, so beware of this deceptive trick.

D. often disguise unhealthy and often dangerous ingredients like mono-sodium glutamate (MSG) under more innocent sounding titles such as hydrolized yeast, natural flavors, etc. Do a google search on "The dangers of MSG" for a more complete list of deceptive titles for MSG.

I encourage you to check out one of my earlier postings, September 11, 2007, entitled: "8 Deceptions of Food Manufacturers' Ingredients Lists..."

When you're reading , you need to look for the good, the bad, and the ugly! You need to train yourself to notice the good quality ingredients, while at the same time to be able to sniff out the bad, dangerous, and toxic ingredients to avoid. Here's a little help for you regarding reading .

BAD, UNHEALTHY, AND TOXIC INGREDIENTS TO WATCH OUT FOR AND AVOID

1. Avoid all products with dangerous and toxic sweeteners that include the following: High-fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, Aspartame, Splenda, Sucrulose, white refined sugar, brown sugar, sucrose, fructose, saacharin, Sweet 'N Low, dextrose, maltodextrin, NatraTaste, etc. These artificial man-made sweeteners have all been proven to be dangerous to your health, toxic to your body, and cause all kinds of health problems. Avoid them at all costs. Beware, they are hiding in most food products, but especially in soda, fruit juice, ice cream, desserts, pastries, cookies, candy, cakes, gum, etc.

2. Avoid all products with hydrogenated and partially-hydrogenated oils, also known as "trans fats." These are put in most foods to make them taste richer and smoother to your tongue. These are unnatural, man-made, highly processed oils that are extremely unhealthy and detrimental to your health. Avoid all products with them. Also, avoid all products made with cottonseed oil, palm oil, soybean oil, and Canola oil (which is a genetically modified oil). These are the worst oils for your body. Also avoid all margarine products, Crisco, Olestra, and Olean; these are extremely toxic and destructive to your health.

3. Avoid all products with mono-sodium glutamate (MSG), soy sauce, and teriyaki sauce. This is an excito-toxin that actually kills brain cells by overstimulating them. This toxic ingredients is added to all kinds of foods in the supermarket and in restaurants to make food taste better and to make you fat. When something has MSG added to it, it over-excites your taste buds, making you think that the food is very delicious. The end result is that you keep eating more and more of that food, you eventually start getting fat, and you become addicted to the MSG in that food. This happened to me with "Chinese Orange Chicken" at a popular fast food restaurant; I became addicted to it and gained a lot of weight. You'll also notice that most potato chips and other salty snacks are spiked with MSG to make them taste so good. You may not know this, but soy sauce and teriyaki sauce have naturally occurRing MSG in them, so you will want to avoid products with these ingredients as well.

4. Avoid all products with white processed flour (aka, enriched wheat flour), white processed rice, pasteurized and homogenized milk and dairy products, artificial colors and flavors (which are nothing more than toxic chemicals), and anything labeled "fat free" or "sugar free" or "low carbs" or "net carbs" or "diet."

5. Avoid all products that are labeled as having shellfish scavengers such as shrimp, crab, lobster, clams, scallops, oysters, etc. and avoid all "farm-raised" fish products. All of these are unhealthy and have toxic chemicals in them.

6. Finally, avoid all pork and pork products, as well as all luncheon deli meats which are loaded sodium nitrates. Pork products are among the very worst that you can ever eat because they are so loaded with toxic substances that harm your body.

A SAD SKIPPY EXAMPLE
Here's an example of a food that appears healthy, but when you read the ingredients list, you find that it is very unhealthy. "Skippy Creamy Peanut Butter - Ingredients: roasted peanuts, sugar, hydrogenated vegetable oils (cottonseed, soybean and rapeseed) to prevent separation, salt." The whole food peanuts are healthy, but everything else added is not healthy at all and should be avoided. Instead, look for all natural peanut butter made with just peanuts and sea salt.

In my next posting, I'll share what the "GOOD FOOD INGREDIENTS" are that you should be looking for when you are reading food labels. It's not enough to just avoid the bad and ugly stuff; you also need to be looking for the good and healthy ingredients that will truly feed your body and provide it with the good nutrition it needs. Until then...

Avoiding Surprise Ingredients in Fast Food - Keys to Eating Healthy & to Good Nutrition

I'd like to share an article I just read from NewsTarget.com on the surprise ingredients in fast food. Avoiding these kinds of health-destroying "surprises" is just one more of the and tips to .

Click on the link below to read the full article.

Surprise Ingredients In Fast Food

After reading this article, it really makes you think twice before ever stopping to eat at one of the national chain fast food restaurants like Wendy's, Burger King, McDonald's, KFC, Taco Bell, etc.

In fact, this article confirmed to me what I already suspected; namely, that fast food is loaded with very unhealthy and often toxic additives that cause people all kinds of health problems and that contribute to the growing problem of obesity in America.

The plain truth is this: if you're away from home and want to eat a healthy meal, DO NOT dare go to a fast food restaurant. It simply is not worth the risk to your health. Along similar lines, I have a sneaking suspicion that most chain restaurants are just as guilty when it comes to sneaking in all kinds of very unhealthy and toxic additives into the food they serve, so beware.

My conclusion is that you, and you alone, are responsible for your health and nutrition. DO NOT entrust your health and nutrition to , or regular restaurants, or even to your local grocery store. Instead, you must educate yourself as to what good nutrition is and how to eat right, and then you've got to be proactive and find ways to make sure that you are only eating good healthy nutritious whole food.

And always remember this: the reasons that the fast food restaurants put such unhealthy and often toxic additives and junk (not even fit for animal feed) into the "food" they serve you are:

1. To make the food taste better (think "MSG," salt, sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, trans fat, etc.) so that you'll keep buying it over and over again.

2. To make you fat (think , salt, sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, trans fat, etc.) All of these things also contribute to making you eat more of their food and to make you fat. Their philosophy is that fat people will eat more food and bring them greater profits.

3. To make you addicted to their food (think MSG, salt, sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, trans fat, etc.) Many of the super-unhealthy and toxic additives are added to get people addicted to fast food. For example, MSG is an "excito-toxin" that causes the brain and taste buds to over-react so that you get addicted to it and want more.

4. To make the fast food look more appealing (think food colorings, etc.)

Final Word from the Naked Nutrition Knight:

Fast food is destroying the health of America and the world; therefore, avoid it at all costs, no matter how good it looks or tastes! Fast food is all about looks and taste, but with the surprise ingredients it is dangerous to your health and will cause you all kinds of long-term health problems. In addition, will make you fat, overweight, and possibly obese.

Start now learning how to eat right and how to give your body the good nutrition it craves, deserves, and needs to function and to live with long-term vitality. If you don't feed your body properly, it will let you down by breaking down, and then what do you have after you've lost your health? Nothing!

Photography Dream - Keys to Good Nutrition and to Eating Healthy

Welcome to my blog on maximum health and optimal nutrition.

Today I'd like to share with you one of my passions: inspirational photography. I'll share a little bit later how this relates to eating healthy and good nutrition.

I have been very busy lately preparing for a contest that was held today. I'm part of a local photographer's club called the Blue Ridge Photographic Society of North Carolina. Every Saturday these friends of mine and I meet to improve our photography and Photoshop skills, and once a month we have a contest focused on a specific theme. This month's theme was "autumn."

I've spent much of my spare time this past month photographing the beautiful and spectacular colors of the autumn foliage here in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. I always carry my camera and tripod with me everywhere I go because I never know when I'm going to see an inspirational scene that I want to capture. I have been very busy this past month photographing the fall colors every chance I could get. The past week I've been doing all of my post-photography work in Adobe CS2.

Well, my friends, today was the big day. Six of us met together and submitted our 2-3 photographs each, and then we all individually and anonymously judged the photographs and voted for the best photograph of the month. I am happy to say that one of my three photographs won the best photograph! I was elated to win, and I thank God for this significant blessing. The winning photograph, entitled "Autumn Solitude," is of a pristine lake in the Blue Ridge Mountains with a kayaker paddling across in the serene autumn solitude.

I am blessed to be able to share the three photographs with you today that I submitted into our competition. I hope that you will enjoy them and be inspired by the awesome beauty of God's creation. Let the sense of wonder be kindled in your heart as you view these pictures.

Why am I sharing these photographs with you and telling you about my photography?

I'm sure you're wondering how this relates to my topic of and tips to .

The simple fact is this: one of my God-given gifts and passions is photography, and I have a whole food nutritional supplement home business that is helping me finance my dream of becoming a professional landscape photographer. Building my URI International nutritional business is not an end in itself, but rather a means to an end. My greatest passion in this life is to love God and serve Him, which includes loving people and serving them. I want to use my URI business to finance my dreams of missions, teaching health and nutrition seminars, training, hospitality, traveling, ministry, and photography.

You see, nutrition and photography are only two of my passions, and yet, they're very much connected to my URI . Not only will my nutrition business provide the financial resources to fund my dreams and achieve my purposes in this life, but it will free up my time so that I can pursue my dreams and accomplish all that God has called me to do. It takes time and money to go on mission trips, to travel and teach, to have a fruitful hospitality ministry, to minister and serve people, and to achieve my photography goals. I hope you now understand why I have shared my photography with you today and how it relates to my URI nutritional supplement business.

What are your dreams and goals? What is your God-ordained purpose in this life? What vision do you have for the future? I encourage you to think about these important issues and write down your purposes, goals, and dreams. Ask God to show you what specific purposes He has for your life. Allow Him to resurrect old dreams that have died or have been neglected. And then ask yourself how having your own URI nutritional home business might be a way for you to achieve the and that is necessary for you to pursue and fulfill your purpose in this life.

Here is Part III of the 12 secrets to health and longevity. In case you missed Part I, I'll repeat the introductory question and comments.

Question: What do I have to do to live a long and healthy life?

Here's my short answer...

Listen, know, and understand that there are keys of knowledge that will help you unlock the secrets to a long and healthy life.

These to and to will open a whole new world of health, life, and vitality to you. I believe you were created by God and destined to live a life of and prosperity.

Here, now, are the final four secrets to health and longevity...

9. TAKE SOME HIGH QUALITY ORGANIC WHOLE FOOD SUPPLEMENTS

10. DETOXIFY YOUR BODY AND ITS ENVIRONMENT

Periodically cleanse your body from toxins with these seven types of important cleanses: colon cleanse, liver/goll bladder cleanse, kidney/bladder cleanse, parasite cleanse, heavy metal cleanse, candida cleanse, and a whole-body cleanse. Give yourself a daily dry brush massage after showering. Take a dry sauna or infared sauna to sweat out built-up toxins. Use an air purification system to keep your home air quality healthy. Wash sheets and towels in organic all-natural soap. Get all mercury amalgam fillings and all metal removed from your teeth. Avoid and eliminate antiperspirants, deodorants, sunblocks, toxic cleaning supplies, air fresheners, non-stick cookware, all use of microwave ovens, fluoride toothpastes, fluorescent lighting, dry cleaning, hot tubs, and steam saunas.

11. PRACTICE GIVING AND RECEIVING LOVE; LEARN TO BE FORGIVING AND ACCEPTING; AND BE THANKFUL

Learning to practice and do these things is critical to your health and longevity. Each of these things will have a healthy and positive effect on your health, and they will be health and life to other people. Keeping a positive and thankful attitude will greatly benefit your health. You were created to love and to be loved, so it's critically important for you to learn how to give love and to receive love. One of my spiritual leaders put it this way: "When you get to heaven, God is going to ask you this question - 'Did you learn to love?' What will your answer be?" One big part of loving is learning to forgive others when they hurt you, as well as forgiving yourself when you do something wrong or stupid. Holding on to unforgiveness only leads to poisoning yourself with bitterness. Unforgiveness makes you a prisoner and destroys your life. Refusing to forgive someone is like drinking deadly poison yourself while thinking it's going to hurt the person who offended you. I have read studies that show that unforgiveness and bitterness are actually toxic to the body and can lead to all kinds of major physical health problems, including the big "C-".

Another aspect of loving is learning to accept other people for who they are and as they are. Sure, nobody's perfect, not even you, so it's important to learn to accept yourself and others with all of their shortcomings. We each have our own strengths and weaknesses, and it is wise to learn to accept that about ourselves and others. Finally, it's also important to have a positive and thankful attitude in this life. Look for the good in other people, and give out plenty of sincere compliments. As you've heard since childhood, "Count your many blessings, name them one by one." God loves a cheerful giver who blesses other people and who lives with a grateful heart. Your attitude in this life is critical to your physical health. If you want to live a long and healthy life, you've got to let go of negative attitudes, complaining, and a critical spirit, and you've got to embrace a life of love, forgiveness, acceptance, positive attitudes, and a thankful heart.

12. DEVELOP A CLOSE FRIENDSHIP WITH GOD

King Solomon wrote: "My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity." (Proverbs 3:1-2) This is encouraging us to follow God's ultimate health plan for our lives by holding on to His teaching and keeping His commands. Of course, this begins with a personal relationship with God, through which we grow in a close friendship with Him based on love for Him and our obedience to His commands. When you learn to offer your body as a living sacrifice by following God's ultimate health plan, you'll enjoy a long life, peaceful, abundant, and prosperous life, and you'll be honoring your family and God.

Part II - 12 Secrets to Health and Longevity: Keys to Good Nutrition and to Eating Healthy

Here is Part II of the 12 secrets to health and longevity. In case you missed Part I, I'll repeat the introductory question and comments.

Question: What would I say if someone asked me what they had to do to live a long and healthy life?

Answer: I'd say, "Do you want the short answer or the long answer?"

Here's my short answer...
Listen, know, and understand that there are keys of knowledge that will help you unlock the secrets to a long and healthy life.

These to and to will open a whole new world of health, life, and vitality to you. I believe you were created by God and destined to live a life of and prosperity.

5. GIVE YOUR BODY THE REST IT NEEDS TO REJUVENATE ITSELF

Get 8 or 9 hours of sleep a night, and make sure to go to bed by 10 pm. Take a short power nap when you can. Learn how to manage stress and to take better care of your body. Give your body the Sabbath day of rest your Creator made for your rejuvenation from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown. The seventh day of the week was created to be a day of rest for mankind. It was made for man to relax and rest, to take a mental and physical break from his work, and to connect with his Creator in a special way. This is a great day to spend more time alone with God, and to spend special time with your family and friends.

6. FAST FROM FOOD ONCE A WEEK

Learn the extremely healthy habit of therapeutic fasting. One day a week fast from all food and just drink natural spring water. This will give your body the time and rest it needs to purge itself of toxins and heal itself. Once or twice a year go on a longer juice fast of 7-21 days for a greater process and more thorough healing process. is one of the healthiest things you can do for your body, so make it a regular part of your life and enjoy the health benefits.

7. EXERCISE DAILY

Daily is a very important part of reducing stress in your body and mind. It also helps to keep your muscles strong and flexible. In addition, daily exercise will help keep you regular. One of the best things you can do to exercise is to take a 30-60 minute power walk outside in the fresh air and in the sunlight. Remember to also practice deep breathing exercises to increase the oxygen in your lungs and body. Do vigorous aerobic and anaerobic exercise. Lift weights every other day to increase and maintain your muscles (strength training). Use a "rebounder" (mini-trampoline) for 5-10 minutes a day. And finally, be sure to enjoy the pleasure of vigorous sex (aka - sexercise) with your spouse daily. It's great for your health and your relationship, and it's a gift of God to enjoy.

8. KEEP YOUR INTESTINES CLEAN WITH FIBER & REGULAR BOWEL MOVEMENTS

is dangerous to your health and can lead to all kinds of health problems. It is a huge problem in America, and it is very much a result of eating the standard American diet of highly processed and refined foods made with things like white flour, white sugar, refined salt, high-fructose corn syrup, processed meats, fast food, junk food, etc. Most Americans don't eat enough vegetables and fruit in their diet, and therefore they do not get enough fiber in their intestinal tract. Some of the most prominent nutritionists and doctors believe that most illnesses can be traced back to the intestines and constipation. Make it a habit to eat plenty of high vegetables, fruits, seeds, grains, and nuts to keep yourself regular. Do plenty of exercise and drink lots of natural water. For more information on fiber, keeping your colon clean, and regular bowel movements, see my blog on September 22, 2007.
